Most spiritual teachers offer descriptions of the awakened state and its manifold blessings, but are vague on how to attain that state, attributing it to grace or years of practice. They may offer pointers, such as “be present,” “know your true nature,” or suggest a few simple lines of inquiry. Thus the student is often left adrift.
What makes Fred Davis so unique and effective as a teacher is that he not only provides the road map to awakening, he takes you on the trip, guiding your every step. In this book’s composite dialogue with a seeker, he gently helps you discover what you are not, thoroughly eliminating all possibilities until your true nature is stunningly revealed.
Fred then helps orient you to this new reality, which is another essential component often overlooked by traditional teachings. The euphoria of initial awakening will fade, like any experience. But the wisdom and insight gained from the experience can endure and support abiding awareness.
Although a clear and open mind is required for this book, it is an easy read, devoid of esoterica or vagaries. It’s like having a lively conversation with a good (and amusing) friend.
Having had an awakening through Fred’s teaching previously, I read this book as a refresher. It served that purpose beautifully, taking me back to the wonder of new awakening, of dropping the veil of conventional, habitual thinking and beholding the purity of this moment, the luminous perfection of what is right now, of what I AM right now.
