   But their experience was real. Wait, no, I guess it wasn’t, since they never existed. My experience of them was real.

   This means that Kathleen’s experience is never real, only Oneness’s experience of her is real. I hadn’t seen that Kathleen is never the one experiencing, but that should have been obvious since she doesn’t exist. How often I miss the obvious!
