I got an email this morning from a woman in England. She had just attended yet another workshop, only to harvest yet another disappointment. She wrote me about booking a session. Here is an excerpt from my reply. Day after day new clients shake their heads in wonder and disbelief as they come to the recognize their True Nature through The Living Method of Spiritual Awakening.
With rare exception, spiritual teachings offer students flint, steel and cotton along with their own brand of instructions on how to hit the flint with the steel. They tell you to hit it over and over and over in the hope that if you’re lucky enough, and live long enough, at some magic moment a spark will fly into the cotton and catch it on fire. Some people try hard, but just can’t produce a spark. For those who can, most of their sparks will miss the cotton. The majority of the sparks that do hit the cotton will not be bright enough to initiate a blaze. Once in a while someone experiences the actual miracle of fire, but for most it will be a short-lived blaze of wonderment. The seeker will be left to forever confuse spiritual experience with spiritual awakening.
This teaching picks the cotton up, turns it over, and shows you that the cotton is already smoldering, and thus all we need to do is blow on it to encourage what’s already smoldering to burst into flame. As the flame starts to stabilize and grow, we continue to fuel it. Mysticism is optional.
