Letter from the Field: The Dharma Is in Good Hands!
After several days of being out of town, “I” sat down in front of my computer this morning with a nice hot mug of black coffee and clicked on the link to the “Blog Posts” section of Awakening Clarity Now. Sipping carefully from the mug, I started with Adam’s post, then worked my way forward to today’s posts by Kathleen and Julee.
The thought came to me that the wisdom of a teacher is often visible by the clarity of his/her students. Perhaps this little nugget was heard or read in some form years ago, or perhaps the thought just bubbled out of the field of consciousness today and into my head. In any case, the wisdom and depth of clarity shown in the writings posted this week is a testament to the effectiveness of the teachings and methods that emanate through Fred.
Of course, these writings and communications are nothing more than awakeness talking to itself through the filters of localized awareness (our characters). But what they show is how clear (or perhaps, even better, how empty) localized awareness is getting among those who have been studying with Fred.
Thank you, Adam, for your honest and heartfelt openness about what all of us have at one time experienced, or are currently experiencing: a sense of inadequacy and perhaps fear accompanied by specific bodily sensations. Your recommendation to allow attention to rest on those feelings is wonderful advice. You have a wonderful way of articulating the paradox of being awake while experiencing the emotional depths of being human.
And thank you, Julee, for those 12 principles of awakening, especially number 11. In the past week, I traveled from Boise, Idaho to Baltimore, Maryland and back and was acutely aware not only of the insanity of others, but of my own character’s insanity! There was a perpetual sense of amusement as I observed not only the activity of masses of people in airports, but of my own character’s interactions with others during the week.
And thank you, Kathleen, for that wonderful commentary on Chapter 3 of The Diamond Sutra! Perfect! I’m reminded of what the Buddha supposedly said when he saw the morning star (Venus) and woke up: “I and all sentient beings on earth, together, attain enlightenment at the same time.”
Thank you, Fred! And thank you all! To paraphrase an Allstate commercial: The dharma is in good hands with this crowd!
Love,
Vince

What a great post Buddha! There’s a feeling of Awakeness putting out its tender tendrils. As It remembers, “Humility … I Am!” it’s able to reach “farther” into “others”. To remember this character came from the insanity of “I Am not”, allows love to show how “I Am not” can be transformed into quite a comedy to watch, or a compassionate story teller for “other” (including to the first “other”, “me”!). Thanks Vince for showing both!
Buddha buddies forever! Mike
