Notes from an English Path: Take a Good Look at Yourself by Julee Bergstrom
Those who have gone before us on the spiritual quest leave a trail of breadcrumbs for us to follow. But their pointers only truly illuminate when they become an affirmation of our own discoveries. And you can only discover by searching for yourself. Nothing is truly known until it is seen through personal insight. Until then, it is just second-hand information.
So if those who have gone before say, “Look for the Singular. Only when you see One are you seeing Truth” – then start looking!
Examine carefully all that appears to you as more than one. I had always believed my experience was the result of things happening to me, that outside circumstances or the actions of others operated upon me. But through inquiry, I discovered that I can only experience myself. There’s only me here! There is no outside. I saw, too, that thought and feeling are one, and that both emanate from the unit. And what is the “unit?” Since at my core I discover only a sense of being, any thoughts I might identify as “me” arise solely from this sense of being. I’ve viewed myself as both me and Me. But there is only Me, who sometimes confuses myself with the localized, separate sense of me.
Thought and feeling are two sides of the same coin. The vibration of thought in the unit arises as feelings, emotions. All experience is internal, with the localized perception of thought and feeling arising anew each moment.
The illusion of multiplicity is created by projecting these thoughts and feelings onto imagined outside objects or characters, for example, “You made me mad,” or “You made me love you.” The feelings are not caused by the other person, but from the reverberation of your own thoughts about that person.
Truth is found in seeing One. Look hard! You might just find Yourself.
