Notes from the Field: Noticing Clarity
Damn! I don’t want to build up your Fredness, but you are awesome, maybe the all-time best. Down Fred, down! 🙂 And it is really amazing that I discovered you now, at this exact moment. As I mentioned in a comment elsewhere, this last summer I had the big Kahuna. A very short book came out of it which I now can’t believe I wrote. Twenty years ago it also happened to a lesser extent and I seemed to be able to, with honesty, see the difference between trying and not trying. I let it all go since it occurred on its own. And I think for the next 20 years I was trapped by the dilemma of the art of practicing without practicing. So, I did nothing and lived and suffered a great deal. I noticed clarity came when, by chance, I got into a discussion with someone and had to explain something unexplainable. But this last summer I started exploring again and entertained the idea of becoming some kind of teacher but felt unqualified other than being sure of accessing it when exploring with others. But after the big unveiling this summer and loss of it, I am at a loss. Sorry for the lengthy comment. Even at the age of 9 or so when it first happened, I knew it was the only game in town, but have been navigating solo all these years, especially after encountering K’s teaching as a late teen. I am now 62. He probably should have offered a little more by way of guidance. I feel I wasted so many years being very trapped. Anyway, so glad you are here. Cheers, Fred!

A great testimonial, and good reminder that the advice from some nondual sources to not practice is not sound. I always suspected this, as I feel clearer when I practice. Clarity requires constant vigilance, at least in this location. I’m always here and always clear, but I love to be aware of it.

Yes, alertness is everything. The bottom line in authentic spirituality is revealed in how we answer this question, and where we answer it from.
“Am I awake to this arising?”
