PICTURE POST: Convenient ‘Spirituality’
I got this photo from a great client today, and I wanted to share it with you. His note said, “Oh, the irony!”
This kind of thinking is the tricky part of getting this thing mentally prior to awakening, or not noticing that we’ve slipped back into the dream in post-awakening. Either position is just as difficult to see in ourselves as the other. We can twist a philosophy like this–if it’s misunderstood–to fit our personal desires. There is a lot of room for selfishness to come in and run the show if we’re not very careful. We get careful by being ever-willing to be honest with ourselves.
Or, if your case is like mine, then there must be the sheepish willingness to get back to telling yourself the truth after having had yet another lapse. Go easy on yourself; you’re doing the best you can.
Even today I am still capable of being briefly, if sharply, pulled back by drama, so let me be the first to acknowledge my own apparent shortcomings. The good news is that its not about my apparent shortcomings or yours. It just doesn’t work like that. The process part of awakening is about our looking for and finding what’s in us that is not awake–and bringing that darkness to the Light of Truth over and over and over again.
We have to want to be free more than we want to be right–in the face of this arising. We never have to surrender to anything more than this present arising, but we never get to surrender to anything less.
