Letter from the Field: Home and Harmony in South Carolina
I woke up to find this email in my inbox on Saturday morning, along with the one printed below. Betsy looks like she never suffered a day in her life, but there was a time when she was regularly drinking vodka straight out of the bottle–sometimes behind the dumpster of the liquor store. It doesn’t seem like you could get from there to this letter, but she bears witness that you can. Hang tough. Love to you. Fred
Good morning, love,
Perfect interlude with the boys this morning, such harmony between us all. Each adds something special, Dickens with his majesty and dignity, Willy with his love and tolerance, Jack with his spark and energy! It’s just wonderful, wonderful…
Can’t wait to be home with you, for dinner and our movie. They are the most precious hours of my life, together with my family. I live in heaven.
All my love, always,
Your wife

Fred and Betsy,
It’s so good to remember where we’ve come from, and appreciate what we have now. I still frequently forget this, and still focus on perceived “lack.” Thanks for the reminder!
All love,
Kathleen

We can’t be grateful and fearful in the same moment.
