Letter from the Field: Oneness Caring for Itself
Hi Fred,
Inspired by all your feeders, I got this a couple of years ago and I think of you with gratitude when I see it. Its wonderful to share the morning with the birds!
Betsy and I are just in from dinner. Jack and Willy met us at the door, scratching to us, so that I would do as I do every night after we have eaten out: give them a meat treat. I did not disappoint.
While I was feeding the boys, I thought of the birds that hang around here, specifically summer’s hummingbirds. So I retrieved their feeder and refreshed it with new sugar water.
Squirrels showed up while I was hanging the hummingbird feeder, I think to remind me of both their presence and their preferences. I took the hint. We buy them, 25 pounds at a time, unshelled, unsalted peanuts, which is good for their systems and their teeth. I fed them from the deck. I just checked and there are four of them feeding already.
The above photo is from a local friend who spent some time with me a couple of years ago. I’m delighted to see that some of the best of me rubbed off on him.
