The Book of Nothing is 156 pages of nothing but quotes and questions that were painstakingly pulled from live satsangs by my dear friend, the late Gordon Goodman, M.D. He spent an entire year pulling out helpful quotes and questions from my responses to students during our live, online Sunday Satsangs. It is a book you can read forward, backward, or start anywhere you like. You can read one quote or question at a time, or 624 of them all at once.
It can be used as a morning meditation or to take a dose of clarity as many times during the day as you want. I’ve always wanted to put out some kind of book like this in the same way I had always wanted to write a book about both recovery and nonduality prior to writing Beyond Recovery back in 2012. It went off to my book packager this afternoon (Wednesday, June 2) and will be available in less than a month—possibly within a week or so.
The Book of Nothing will first be available in Kindle and paperback. There will be an audiobook as well a little later down the road. Audiobooks are their own trial and reward and require their own undivided attention—and a bit of money. A lot of you already prefer my titles in audio, and this one will be absolutely ideal for that format. It can be a background presence whether you’re driving, working in the office, around the house, or out in the yard, and when you’re taking your regular walks. So, patience, please, but it’s definitely coming.
It went through the guiding hands, eyes, and brain of its first editor, Kathleen Sutherland, back in 2019. I then spent a year (off and on) polishing and tightening up the manuscript. A few new questions and quotes arrived during that process. Then it went to its second editor-proofreader, Mike Lilly, who spent several weeks working with it. Finally, this spring it went to its third and final, amazing editor and astonishing proofreader, John Wiersba.
All of these contributors are long-term students of The Living Method of Spiritual Awakening. In other words, we’re all friends. Everyone who handled the words understood what I was saying, or in some cases, what I was trying to say! We all kicked in and every single one of us made a difference. Lastly, my friend and student, Jane Cockerell, helped Betsy and I move into 2021 technology so that we could both reimagine the teaching (hence the Skillful Means Series) and have the time to carry that out while finishing the book.
It’s been a labor of love—of my love for you. I hope you’ll join me in enjoying it just as soon as it becomes available.
I’d be very grateful if some of you who get a lot out of this teaching were to read the book (and assuming you like it as much as I think you will) and then write an Amazon review and a five-star rating. For a long time now I haven’t done much promotion for my books other than mentioning it here, in a flyer, and talking about it on YouTube. Your reviews can make all the difference. It’s up to you guys to make it known through reviews, word-of-mouth, and thoughtfully placed links so that The Book of Nothing can get into as many of the right pairs of hands as possible. Thank you in advance for that favor.
This teaching is not for everyone and it doesn’t try to be. But for those who come to call it their own, there’s literally nothing like it in the world. Thank you for your interest in me, my books, and courses, and The Living Method of Spiritual Awakening.
